This collection was deposited through one of our volunteers on behalf of John Boulden of Plympton. John served two years National Service in the Royal Air Force and then in the family plumbing and heating business. He is currently Chairman of the Plympton & District Civic Society.

This collection contains around 500 glass plates/lantern slides and transparencies mostly showing Plympton House interiors, exteriors, grounds, staff and family. There are also many images of the surrounding localities of Devon and Cornwall with some for Plymouth. John built up his vast collection over a period of many years prior to depositing part of it with SWiB for continued safekeeping.

A large number of the general photographs are late-Victorian, many are later and vividly capture the flavour of Edwardian life in Plymouth, Plympton, the outskirts and other parts of the Country.
